The California Department of Education identified Vista del Mar Elementary School as a Distinguished School, Gold Ribbon School and 2015, 2018, and 2019 California Honor Roll School.

Congratulations to our teachers, students and parents for their hard work, dedication, and passion for learning!  We have all known what a great school we have in our community and it is even better to know that the State has honored us for our efforts.  Vista del Mar is committed to providing our children with the best educational tools and thinking skills to prepare them for their future.

In addition, the Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE), has recognized Vista del Mar Elementary School as an Honor Roll school for the 2015, 2018, and 2019 California Honor Roll.

Way to go Makos!

Principal's Message

Principal's Message

Welcome back to school, Makos!  I also want to welcome our new students including over 100 new full-day kindergartners (Graduating class of 2032!) to the Mako Family.  You are joining a Family who are proud of our high expectations, respectful character, and grit to accomplish great things.   Over the years, Vista del Mar Elementary School has been honored as a Distinguished School, California Gold Ribbon and Honor Roll School in 2015, 2018, and most recently in 2018-2019.  These accomplishments are a great indication of the dedication and hard work of our teachers, students and parents to provide children with an exceptional education experience.

This year, we will continue our focus with writing, mathematics, and the implementation of the Next Generation Science curriculum.  VdMES has an incredibly talented staff (teachers and support staff) who challenge students to higher levels of thinking and learning in different ways.  Our students thrive for knowledge, grasping for new information and the opportunity to applying it in their lives.

VdMES has a positive parent presence that embraces family values, academic performance, and the San Clemente community.  As a parent and educator, I know firsthand how student performance and success in school is directly correlated to parent participation.  Even if your child doesn't see you at VdMES during the school day, they are aware of your interest and passion about being involved in their school through various activities.

Your participation can occur in many ways including getting involved with our outstanding PTA and MAKO Foundation.  We are grateful to our VdM PTA and Mako Foundation for supporting our assemblies, field trips, library, technology, writing program and systems to keep our children safe. If you are unable to volunteer, your financial generosity supports our educational materials and programs, additional staffing, and technology hardware and software to improve student learning opportunities.

I am excited about continuing our work together as we prepare our children to be successful in college and career for the 21st Century.

Go Makos!
